Sadaqah Jariyah for Nasir

Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
(السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ)

The intention of this page is to help create Sadaqah Jariyah for Ali Nasir Farooq. The funds raised will go to ICNA Relief Canada, a registered Canadian charitable organization, for a project on his behalf.

This is a little bit about Nasir Mamujaan from me, his nephew

Let me preface this by saying that what you’ll read below is only a fraction of the impact he made on those around him.

Big Heart

The time I've known him pales in comparison to that of my elders. Something I consider their good fortune, to be able to know him just that much longer as he often kept in touch with everyone and crafted lasting relationships.

In fact, when I wanted to create a family tree, the first person on the lips of everyone for me to reach out to for help was Nasir Mamujaan. And indeed he was the one who knew the most about everyone, as he kept in touch

After reading some of the messages from his loved ones I can truly say he never missed any wedding or event he was invited to without fail.

I remember that despite having serious pain and injuries that he would still go while saying "Arrey mian, kuch nahi hota" (His way of saying I'll be ok, this pain is nothing). He'd sit for hours and be the last to leave after meeting everyone

There was no gathering complete without his jokes. His calm, sly speech style for telling jokes was iconic, something we eagerly awaited in every get-together. You couldn’t help but burst out laughing at his quick-witted remarks with a Hyderabadi lehja.

His Intellectual Curiosity

He was a great collector of many things. Coins, rare denominations, precious stones, and his rings. He would gladly showcase them to me at a moment's notice. His enthusiasm for them was contagious and we'd often have cheerful discussions regarding them.

Being raised away from India, I wasn't able to read Urdu. When I visited Hyderabad, Nasir Mamujaan would often lend me his stack of children stories in Urdu and encouraged me to enrich my learning. In fact my earliest recollection of being able to read the Quran with a certain fluency was because he would make sure I tried to read it, didn't take excuses, and be there to listen. Something I'll always be grateful to him for.

He also loved traveling and would carry around a camera to document it. He would often get my help to help transfer his videos when his phone storage got full as he didn't want to delete anything (even those pesky WhatsApp videos), as they were precious memories to him and those he shared them with.

His Love for Food

He was an incredible foodie with a taste for fine food. With just a whiff of the meal he could tell the ingredients and if there was something missing. He often joked when he ate salads and pasta "Arrey ye kya ghaas khana hai"

He lived large and favored the best of foods and I think he'd want us to remember that "Abhi nai to kabhi, sab ku jaana hai, magar hai toh acha time guzarna"

Big Treats

On my trips to Hyderabad as a kid:

In the middle of the night if we felt like eating ice cream, he'd take us to the best spot in the city and order every kind they had for us to try. Rain or shine he was there. Even when his health prevented him from traveling in person, he made arrangements to make sure we were able to get everywhere.

Watching him negotiate with the vendors was an art I had the privilege of witnessing. Hearing them call him "Nasir Bhai" was a testament to the relationships he created with everyone.

His Faith

He had faced difficulties in his life but his faith in Allah hadn't wavered

I had the good fortune of visiting him while he was in Makkah after he performed Hajj. He was so excited and booked me a cab there to visit the Hajj grounds with him. My first experience seeing it in person.
I can only imagine the good deeds and prayers he has done to have such an auspicious day and month be his last (Jummah in the month of Ramadan). I ask Allah to grant him mercy and the highest level of Jannah.

His Impact

The many tears I shed while writing this despite living on the other side of the world from him are the true testament to how the little time we did spend together was enough to have an impact on my life. He was just that type of man.

Despite how much I write, a gem can only be described in so many ways. To appreciate it's true beauty you'd have to had seen it for yourself.

I can only hope that I can make as lasting of an impact on my nephews as he did on me.
