Sacred Pilgrimage and Art: Mary Magdalene's Story

Hi everyone,

My name is Lila, and I’m an artist dedicated to creating work that challenges societal norms, celebrates feminine empowerment, and connects the ancient wisdom of the past with the needs of our modern world. Art has always been my way of translating deep emotions and spiritual truths into something tangible—something that resonates with the heart and soul.

For the past year, my focus has been projects that honor women’s liberation, challenge outdated cultural beliefs, and invite a deeper understanding of divine feminine and masculine energies in harmony. My work is deeply personal and unapologetically bold, often drawing from my own experiences and spiritual practices.

The Mary Magdalene Project

I have been accepted to an art residency in the South of France, where I will explore themes surrounding Mary Magdalene, her story, and her legacy as a symbol of divine feminine power. Near the residency lies the caves where Mary Magdalene is said to have spent the final years of her life in prayer and contemplation. For me, this residency is more than an opportunity to create—it is a sacred pilgrimage.

Mary Magdalene represents so much of what I strive to embody in my life and work: devotion, love, strength, and the courage to reclaim one’s identity in the face of misunderstanding or oppression. During the residency, I will create art inspired by her journey as a woman who stood in her truth and lived in alignment with her heart.

My goal is to channel her story into paintings that highlight the sacredness of womanhood, the journey of reclaiming identity, and the balance between the feminine and masculine within us all. I plan to weave my personal narrative into this work, exploring themes of womanhood, spirituality, and freedom while inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationship with these themes.

Why I Need Your Support

The residency itself is a significant opportunity, but it also comes with costs. In addition to covering the residency fee, I need to fund flights, accommodations, and living expenses while abroad. The total cost comes to around $4,000, and I’m currently about halfway to my goal. Your support would mean the world to me, as it would allow me to fully immerse myself in this experience and create art that I hope will inspire, heal, and connect us all.
