What the world needs now…surely is love. It’s tough to argue with that. How do we remember at our core that not only can we give love, but we ARE love?
In Seattle, we’re setting the lofty goal of actually living the experience of ourselves as love.
How?
By creating Sacred Embodiment Community, an open community dedicated to connection and transformation which uses the teachings and practices of Tantra and other embodied spiritual traditions to awaken conscious living, conscious loving, and freedom.
At Sacred Embodiment Community Seattle (SECS), we envision a world where all beings are held in unconditional love, able to speak their needs, wants, and desires and are empowered in their sense of human and divine essence. We are committed to creating a community where we break down silent oppression and embrace human fallibility. We will show up together in love, playfulness, and the ability to witness, accept and take responsibility for our thoughts, words and actions. Our ultimate goal is liberation – on an individual level and global scale.
It’s time that our intentions outweigh the harm that’s been caused in the name of spiritual transformation. Reclaiming the values of sangha and dharma feel important. So many people want change – and are ready to do it from the inside out. So why not go all the way? Why not set our intentions on liberation for those who really do want to show up and dismantle?
In short, we’re going to do this because we have no choice. We’re ready. You’re ready.
Yes, it’s hard. And it will take a lot of people who say yes to love…no matter what. The good news is that more of us want this than we might think. When we show up together, anything is possible. That’s what the embodied spiritual teachings show us, that as we polish off our own self-awareness through embodied practice, we all shine a little brighter and bring presence and acceptance all around us.
Here’s what we’re choosing at SECS:
- To carefully honor the traditional roots of Tantra and Yoga and distinguish that from beautiful embodied practices that come from other traditions in an effort not to misappropriate these powerful traditions
- To live the values of compassionate action in the world, inside the walls of our community, online, and in the wider world
- To navigate conflict with restorative and transformative processes
- To speak to, call-in, and break down systems of oppression and truly make an inclusive community where people in the non-majority are seen, celebrated and embraced for their beautiful human identities AND their divine essences
- To aspire to a set of agreements and guiding values and create consistent programming where we’re in for the long term goals of shifting our conditioned patterns into conscious thoughts, words and actions
- To break through isolation and support one another with loving accountability
- To embrace and celebrate conscious relationships, sensuality, and sexuality as vital parts of our being
We do this in so many ways! A few are: men’s, women’s and queer groups to work within brave affinity containers; Authentic Relating activities to sustain personal transformation alongside spiritual dismantling; regular classes in anti-oppression, anti-racism and breaking down barriers of normative culture; addressing the important intersections of Tantra and activism; Tantric Hatha Yoga - both weekly drop-in classes and progressive journeys inward with families of seekers; conscious relationship discussions and practice sessions; consent, boundary and space-holding trainings; leadership mentoring...and so much more. And it’s only our first six months!
For many in our community, SECS has been a beacon of light that helps us navigate the complexities of today’s world and break out of societal norms while fostering acceptance and love. Some come to find a spiritual practice that supports living in a new paradigm. Some come to connect deeper with like-minded and like-hearted people. Some come to really shift their patterns, be seen in their mistakes, and do the hard work of changing lifelong conditions.
We’re already 400+ members and we’re working towards becoming sustainable. But we’re not there yet. We need your help.
In the origins of our traditions, temples were supported by the state or neighboring communities. Everyone who really wanted to transform had equal access to the teachings. Now, that’s not the case.
It takes $3800 minimum per month to keep us going with rent, utilities, IT expenses, and paying our teachers and facilitators. We’re working with some incredible professionals in Seattle to build our capacity for conflict navigation and become more trauma informed in our practices.
Plus, we’re moving this summer into a more accessible space that will reach a greater population and meet more of our needs. We have local investors who have offered to cover our moving expenses, but we want to start paying them back by the end of the summer. And if you know anything about housing in Seattle, it's expensive!
As such, our budget for 2019 is a little higher so we can bring in the support we need and do this right.
We are also strongly inclusive of any financial situations. Your value at SECS is not determined by how much you make or how much you can pay to attend. We ask appropriately for people who are able to pay for classes, and we also don’t turn anyone away for lack of funds. Because of that, building a pool of scholarship funds is much needed.
Our goal is to raise $7000 by August 1, 2019.
Please support us with a donation to our fundraising campaign. All donations – large or small – are welcome. Every dollar helps.
Or you can contribute a recurring monthly donation that will keep on giving!
If this campaign has landed on your lap, then you’re one of those people who knows the values of love, awareness, and liberation. You know what it will take to change the paradigm of our world. And you know that compassionate action in the world comes in many forms.
