was born from Abchordis Ensemble
's passion and love for Neapolitan Music of the 1700's. The project’s goal is to rediscover, select, and, above all, spread Italian music of the 1700's: sacred
and instrumental music
which has over time become unknown, unpublished and unjustly forgotten.
In this first discographic project we have chosen to record the incredible Stabat Mater
by Giacomo Sellitto in world premiere
. Not much is known about this composer, however he was the singing teacher and chapel master at the Collegio dei Nobili of Naples. His music is a perfect example of the new style and outstanding musical creativity that made Naples
renowned as the musical capital of Europe
in the 1700's. This Stabat Mater by Sellitto presents many interesting affinities with the wellknown Stabat Mater
which gives the composition an even more breathtaking beauty. The sequence of movements alternates elaborated four voice chorals with solo arias and duets, and is all executed with a unique lyricism full of Neapolitan pathos.
Besides Sellitto’s masterpiece, the disc presents other unpublished Neapolitan jewels recorded in world premiere
: a Sinfonia
of a bright and lively character, and a beautiful Lectio Defunctorum
for Soprano solo
, Violins and Basso Continuo by Gennaro Manna
.This very important musical project has a lot of expenses
: we are 13 musicians with travel and hospitality costs, a church to rent for the recording, an organ and a harpsichord to rent and transport, as well as all the recording costs. We have pooled together our resources and even sold some of our instruments, however the cost of preparing for and realising this important musical research has still not been met. With your help, we can do it!
WITH YOUR DONATIONS WE HAVE ALREADY MADE THE FIRST PART OF OUR DISCOGRAPHIC PROJECT, PLEASE HELP US TO COMPLETE IT! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
