I’m sitting here tonight typing this with trembling fingers and hands.
My mind races as it continues to replay the tragic scenes of today.
First, I want everyone to know we are all physically safe, including our cat who I was able to pull from the fire. I am so grateful for this and that we have each other to lean on.
Our house caught on fire and the damage has affected nearly everything. From the house itself to all of our clothes, furniture, sentimental items, personal documents, the girls’ toys, books, beds, it is pretty much all gone.
My heart aches deeply for my parents, whose entire lives and savings were in this house. Yes, we like to say they’re just things, but as I'm experiencing this situation, I realize that there's a fine line between “just things” and things that make up the life that you have built with your family. Imagine having everything that make a house YOUR HOME taken away from you unwillingly without notice. How do you go about your days?
I am devastated as I watched my mom return home and break down in the very garage that she spent days cleaning to make more room for her granddaughters to play in.
It’s one of those things you hear and read about, but never would expect to happen to you and your family. A lot of people have asked to help, but honestly, I don’t know where to even start. As much as we have lost, my parents have lost that and more. It will be a long road to recovery.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping in any way you can.
