Sacha Larosiliere’s Double Lung Transplant Fund
Five years ago, Sacha began having trouble breathing after being exposed to mace at his workplace. Eventually after fainting a number of times he started to search for answers - a year later full of tests, biopsies, and hospitalizations he was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary hypertension - a rare, progressive, and incurable lung disease with a still-unknown cause. Despite receiving the best care from top pulmonologists and cardiologists, his health has deteriorated to the point where he requires a double lung transplant. He has been hospitalized since August 23rd, and currently is in the ICU at Presbyterian-Columbia Hospital in NYC waiting for a viable match to come through. While he is close to the top of the transplant wait list, the timing of his surgery depends on when an organ match comes through. It could happen at literally any moment, or he may have to wait months.
Whether you know him as Sunna, Delphine, and Elloise’s dad, Stephanie’s husband, your hilariously funny and helpful neighbor, trusted colleague, beloved brother/cousin/nephew, or true lifelong friend, you know Sacha always has a big smile radiating from his even-bigger heart.
Sacha is currently very ill, but is - as always - positive and in good spirits. He would like to share:
“I cannot lie, in the beginning it was very depressing, to go from being very active and healthy to in the hospital having an emergency lung biopsy. I have always been a hard worker, focusing on getting it all done, clearly not prioritizing life the way I should have been. As my physical capabilities started to slow down, I realized I should have been doing more living with my family instead of surviving. Right now, I'm at a pivotal crossroad as the time comes for me to have life-saving surgery. I do not doubt at all that I will recover, with the love and support of my family and friends around me. I have no doubts that I will make it to the other side, stronger and healthier than ever.”
Stephanie has had to take a leave of absence from her work. His daughter Sunna is helping coordinate care. His 13-year-old twins Elloise and Delphine are keeping his spirits high. They need our help.
Many family friends have asked for a way to support Sacha during this pivotal time. Your gift to this fund will help the family with ongoing medical bills that aren’t covered by insurance, lifelong anti-rejection medications, extensive physical rehabilitation, and help with everyday expenses until Stephanie and Sacha can both return to work.
This lovely family needs help, and support from friends, family and extended networks is critical right now.
Let’s show up big for Sacha, Stephanie, Sunna, Delphine, and Elloise when they need us most.
Thank you so much. Any donation - no matter the amount - will ease their undeserved struggle.
