Hi! Thank you for visiting our site, we are the "Solar Stingers", a group of five Sacramento State Mechanical Engineering Students that are thriving in their Senior Project class. We are honored and proud of our design and how far it has come. All the long hours of making iterations and doing calculations are finally resulting in  (what we are hoping will become) a competition worthy solar powered boat.
Though, as it turns out, building a full scale solar powered boat is expensive and we can use all the help we can get.

We do not need to buy everything for the boat, so here is the breakdown.

Provided Materials:
- Two Solar Panels

Materials to buy and build:
- 1/3 Horse-power Motor
- Solar Panel mount materials
- 24 Volt Battery
- Two 14 foot long pontoons (made from foam and fiberglass)
- Throttle control system components
- Two different types of high grade water-proof plywood
- Materials to build a rudder to steer the boat
- All hardware for installation of constituent parts

We estimate that the boat will need at least $2500 put into it in order to race successfully.

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to read this and for donating if you did. We are incredibly excited for this project and it would mean the world to us to have the opportunity to build it, especially with the help of friends, family, and acquaintances. We will not let you down. Go Solar Stingers!

Here is some information about each one of us.

Jeremy Nuyens
Hello! I grew up in Novato California and decided to go to Sacramento State 1. because it is not too far from home and 2. because of the awesome mechanical engineering program they have here. I love tinkering with code and drawing 3D images on Solidworks. I use to row for Sacramento State Mens Rowing and I am very involved in the Billiards Club here on campus. College has shed light on so many fantastic ways of life and I look forward to even more opportunities post-college!

Jesse Lee
Hi there!  The name is Jessie Lee and I grew up in South Sacramento, California.  I initially chose Sacramento State due to cost but eventually learned and heard more about the Mechanical Engineering program there.  I grew helping my uncle, who was a licensed and certified mechanic at the time, and loved how components move individually or as in relation to other components.  Since coming to Sacramento State, I delved deeper into mechanical engineering to it just being more than just cars.  From the different forms of energy to power to design and to materials, my knowledge has drastically expanded from just cars.  Outside of school, I like to play tennis and am currently an assistant tennis coach for a small club in the South Land Park area.  Looking forward to what comes next in the near future!
