Friday, December 15, 2023, Jacob’s mother; Eula and Don’s daughter; Clay and Lynn’s sister; Rees, Ryan, Peyton, and Xavier’s aunt lost her battle with an illness that consumed a large part of her life. The family wants to thank everyone who has extended condolences, love, and support. Writing this is difficult because, quite frankly, we are broken. The only thing that has motivated me to type this is the thought of Big Mama, Mother, Big Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa, Granddaddy, and Uncle David waiting for Bina when she joined them.
Sabrina was one of the most talented people I have known. From her birth in September of 1970, she was the “MacGyver” of the family. She could create amazing meals from the simplest of ingredients. Her voice was so amazing. And her creativity, in terms of making anything from costumes to everyday clothes, was unmatched. Anytime Jacob or Ryan would think up fantastic Halloween costumes, Aunt B (Mom) would come through. Always.
Bina is 22 months younger than me. Being military brats often she and I were best friends. Writing, directing, and acting in neighbor plays that no one attended. Creating our own “talk show” that only she and I listened to. And when our brother came along, he was incorporated into our shenanigans. Singing show tunes and participating in Christmas room decoration contests (they ALWAYS won).
Throughout adulthood, Bina was often the voice of reason to my “sky is falling, let’s run into traffic” approach to raising two boys. “Lynn, you have boys, stop whining and just do it!”.
As a mother, Bina was Jacob’s everything. She sacrificed so much for him. Working through immense pain. Being present for any event, supporting and encouraging his passions; even asking for help when it became too much because her love for him was greater than her pride.
As a friend, she would extend herself in terms of being a sounding board for those in need, even as she suffered. As a member of the community, her commitment to the theater in both Enid and Austin allowed audiences to experience new worlds of wonder as she managed the production behind the curtain and sometimes entertained on stage. She was a talented singer and actor.
As I type this the Beatles’ My Life is playing in the background.
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you.
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new.
Our memories of Sabrina will never lose meaning. She lives on in the secret language she shared with Clay and me, in her son’s creativity and intellect, in her nephews’ unexpected kindness and unassuming sense of humor, in her niece’s ingenuity, in her dad’s smile, and in her mother’s face.
Sabrina will be laid to rest surrounded by friends and family in Enid on December 28th. Her Celebration of Life will be held at New Light Baptist Church, 1223 West Maple, 73703, beginning at 1 PM. Immediately after the ceremony, Sabrina will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6405 Memorial Drive, Enid, 73701. Following the internment of the casket, a repast will be served back at the church. All are welcome to attend.
The family will host a celebration of life event in Austin after the first of the year, for her Texas friends who are unable to make the services in Oklahoma, with details forthcoming.
The family welcomes any donation you are comfortable and able to contribute towards the services.
