The Sablière Society is a female final club on Harvard’s campus, founded in 2002 to bring together women who share a love of arts and culture. The club’s early days were characterized by frequent trips into Boston for meals, museum visits, and shows. 15 years later, we have maintained the club’s connection with and affinity for the arts, and also spent a lot of our time and energy creating a safe and supportive community on-campus for our members.
The club apartment, for example, is crucial to our existence. The Sab rents a 1-floor apartment with living room, dining area, kitchen, and bathroom exclusively for our members’s use. The apartment is in Cambridge, close to campus, but not affiliated with Harvard College. As such, it is a wonderful, quiet place for members to come during the day, make coffee, and study; it also functions as a space that members can reserve for dinners, birthday parties, holiday parties, and other gatherings in the evening.
Coming up in the spring, Sab board is planning 4 all-club cultural dinners, 2 cocktail events at venues in Boston, an alumnae evening, brunch for Junior parents, and 2 send-off events for seniors. We are excited to see our date dinners, dual club dinners, and Sab small group continue, and also pleased to announce the beginning of a member book club.
This past fall was particularly exciting for Sab members and we have all benefitted from and been inspired by each other’s company. One of our members was accepted into the HBS 2+2 program. One of our members began a sports blog celebrating female athletes, and was interviewed by a CBS news affiliate. One of our members began her first season dancing for the Boston Celtics, while another member was elected to Senior Class Committee, to represent, fundraise, and event plan for this year’s class of outgoing seniors. We are incredibly proud of our bright, capable, and devoted membership, and the relationships they have formed with one another.
The $3,000 we aim to raise from this campaign will go towards: 1) supplies for the apartment — cleaning products, snacks, new silverware, etc; 2) funding the events listed above and potentially expanding the size of those events to include more members, alumnae, and friends of our community; 3) growing our long-term savings, which will enable us to someday buy (rather than lease) property and more effectively deal with any potential changes to club structure that Harvard administration requires in the future.
As always, we are so appreciative of your support, and thankful that our members and their families work to afford and commit to membership in the Sablière Society.
