Sabin Gurung

Hello, my name is Prem Bahadur Gurung, and I am reaching out with a heavy heart to share the story of a brave young boy named Sabin Gurung. Sabin is the beloved son of my dear friend, Ram Bahadur Gurung, who works as a humble school caretaker in Gandaki Gaupalika Ward No. 2 at and his devoted wife, a housewife who cares for their home and family without any steady income.

Two months ago, Sabin began suffering from intense pain and weakness because a nerve at the base of his neck had become severely trapped. After enduring weeks of increasing discomfort, Sabin traveled with his family to Kathmandu for treatment. We were all hopeful when he underwent a delicate surgery to relieve the pressure on the nerve, praying that this operation would help restore his health and future.

Sadly, the news we received after the operation was devastating. The surgery, however diligently performed, was unsuccessful, and Sabin became paralyzed. He now cannot move his limbs or take care of himself as he once did. For this gentle, bright boy – who used to run and play with his friends in the village and dream about becoming a happy, healthy young man – this outcome has been heartbreaking. The entire community is shocked and saddened to see Sabin confined to bed, but we have not lost hope. We know how strong Sabin is, and we believe there is still a chance for him to regain movement with the right medical care.

At present, Sabin is staying at Wellness Hospital in Bansbari, Kathmandu, where he continues to receive medical attention. His condition is stable but critical, and he urgently needs further surgery and specialized care to give him the best chance of recovery.

Sabin’s family is struggling more than ever right now. His father, Ram Bahadur, has worked tirelessly as the caretaker of our local school for many years, earning only a small daily wage. His mother stays at home, caring for Sabin and the household, but she has no income of her own. They do everything they can, but the reality is that their earnings barely cover basic needs. Since Sabin’s operation two months ago, they have spent all their savings and even borrowed money from relatives and neighbors just to pay for travel, hospital fees, and the first round of treatment. Now, with Sabin’s condition still critical and in need of further medical help, this loving family simply cannot manage the financial burden on their own.

Doctors have explained that Sabin needs another specialized surgery – a critical procedure that could possibly relieve the nerve compression and give him a chance to walk again. After that surgery, he will also require intensive rehabilitation: physical therapy, medications, and possibly special support equipment. The total cost of this care is far beyond what Ram and his wife can afford. Because this is a rural area, there are few resources, and their modest savings are long gone. This is why I, Prem Bahadur Gurung, am humbly asking our wider family of friends, kind strangers, and compassionate people everywhere for help. We hope to raise as much as possible to cover Sabin’s medical bills and recovery expenses. Every rupee will go directly to Sabin’s care – paying for surgery, medications, hospital stays, and the therapy he needs afterward.

Sabin is not just any patient; he is a sweet, determined boy with an entire life ahead of him. Before this tragedy, he loved school, he used to help his father in small ways, and he had plans of one day becoming someone who could give back to our community. Seeing him in this vulnerable state is incredibly hard. He still flashes a shy smile even now, showing the strength he has always had inside. We know that if there is a chance – even a small one – for Sabin to stand up and walk again, it will be because people like you chose to give him that hope.
