I'm Krista -- a singer of songs, player of instruments, organizer of logistics and bringer of funkiness to all. Recently I have embarked upon a a career in performing and teaching and am looking for your support! I have tried my luck working with young people in more conventional education settings and have decided, it's best I go rogue ~

I teach group Sabar lessons (a traditional Senegalese drum) to children and adults. These drums are beautiful, hand-made, goat-skinned drums which are played with one hand and one stick (called "galang). With your support, I hope to purchase another 7-10 drums during my trip to Senegal( Dec 27 - Jan 12) to expand the size of my current classes. Time is of the essence!
$800 --- Drums (8 drums @ $100/ea.)
$600 ---- Shipping (Senegal > USA)
$30 ------ Galang (sticks)
$500 ---- Lodging / Classes (Help to offset my cost for lessons while I am in Senegal & Ghana. My total cost = $1200)
My Mission
I see a need for revitalization; musical, kinetic, introspective, empathic or otherwise and I am prepared to devote myself to the cause. Our lack of musical culture which kids are growing up in is negatively impacting their social development and inevitably, their ability to connect, work, live or thrive among others or to know themselves. This (along with proper nutrition), I believe is at the heart of many sociopolitical issues. Time to get to work and play!

What do I do?
Short answer: teach, write and learn music (+ a LOT of logistics)
I offer private or group lessons in voice, guitar, piano, bass and sabar. My approach is intuitive and I pride myself in my ability to meet the needs of each student.
Outside of my musical happenings, I am a community organizer. This job involves meeting many people, not for the sake of "networking" to climb the ladder of social hierarchy, but to create connections because I respect people and genuinely want to know their stories. I introduce people, create collaborative spaces for them to interact, offer advice and keep an even-keel in awkward or tense situations. Sometimes I handle behind-the-scenes logistics that happen before and after events or performances so that everything can run smoothly and people say "my, what a nice thing this is!".
