One of our beloved community members, Elder Murhi, is facing a significant health challenge. After travelling to Alberta from her home in the Slocan Valley she was struck ill. Having survived a serious and life threatening neurosurgery; thanks to many thoughts and prayers, she has now completed her acute treatment and continues to strive forward through her rehabilitation. Murhi has been a strong contributing member of many communities in the West Kootenays; working with many social programs, in schools supporting high risk youth, in group homes for autistic adults, administering funding for Indigenous support programs and many others. After dedicating her life to supporting her communities; Now she needs your help.
Having completed her acute phase treatment in Edmonton Alberta we are gathering the necessary funds to repatriate Murhi back to her home. Interprovincial transportation costs are not covered by BC's Medical Service Plan and as she is not able to travel commercially due to her medical needs; private ground ambulance is our only option left. After 3 months of exploring every option feasibly available, we are asking for your help.
Murhi has a long and complicated journey still ahead of her, getting closer to home will help provide the necessary physical and moral support of her friends and family, as well as access to the health and social services she requires. Thank you all so much for your continued support as we look to transition to this next stage of her journey.
Thoughts and prayers!
