World championships

Hi my name is Jenny Johnston and I'm fundraising to help two girls, Louise Smith and Olivia Cuthbertson, attend the World karate championships in Venice.

Louise Smith and Olivia Cuthbertson, both members members of Kokusai Karate Club in Clydebank under the guide of Sensei Billy Haggarty 7th Dan, located in Clydebank Leisure Centre on the bank of the River Clyde, have been selected by the Scottish Karate Team to represent their country at the upcoming Junior World Championships held in Italy this October.

The Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB) have selected only one Karateka per category to compete at this prestigious event and the girls are honoured by this selection and excited to compete on the biggest stage for karate.

Louise Smith

Louise, 18, has been practising karate since the age of 6 and is the current U21 Scottish Champion, other titles Louise holds are,- 3 x Scottish Champion, 2 x British Medalist and Copenhagen International Open Vice Champion. Louise currently trains 2 days a week at Kokusai Karate Club, and 4 days a week in the gym perfecting her Katas, whilst balancing training with her University studies and part-time job.

Olivia Cuthbertson

Olivia, 14, has been practising karate since she was 4 years old and is the current Cadet Scottish Champion, other titles Olivia holds are,- 3 x Scottish Champion, British Champion, Vice British Champion, British International Champion, 2 x Irish International Champion, Swedish International Champion and Dutch International Vice Champion. Olivia trains 5-6 times per week, 2 days per week with Sensei Billy at his Clydebank club and 3-4 days after school in the gym with her coach dad.

Why we need your help..

There is no financial Government funding in this country for Sport Karate therefore there are no funds available within the Scottish Karate Governing Body's pot. This makes Louise and Olivia self-funded athletes, which is difficult to do whilst in school and university and trying to develop and move forward in this sport.
