SA Islanders Scholarship for Debi Hernandez

Our SA Islanders basketball family has unexpectedly lost one of our parents, Karen Hernandez, mother to one of our players, Debi Hernandez.

The Hernandez family has been loyal to the SA Islanders organization for about 13 years.

Karen was Debi's number 1 supporter as well as a huge advocate and believer in our Islanders Basketball Organization!

 

Debi, who is only a sophomore in High School, will need the help and assistance from her community, family, and friends.

Debi is known to bring smiles and great energy to the people around her. She is a sweet, respectful, hard working leader of our Girls Basketball teams.

She has been a fixture in the San Antonio basketball community since elementary when she helped guide her CYO teams to City Championships.

 

The news of Karen's passing is extremely sad and heartbreaking.

The family was already facing financial difficulties.

Debi, along with the rest of the family have been through a lot.

 

Coach Alexia and myself are establishing a SA Islanders Scholarship for Debi in order to help her, once she graduates High School.

One of Karen's goals was to see Debi continue her education and basketball career at the college level.

There is no doubt in our minds that Debi’s talent and leadership will get her a chance in college, however we hope that this scholarship will actually take action to help her achieve this goal for a bright future.

 

We are asking in kind for any donations, prayers, support from our Islanders family as well as from our friends and extended family. Anything would be greatly appreciated.
