Tavia Marlatt is an extraordinary young woman who has been living with epilepsy for the last 15 years.
She had a grand mal seizure at the bus stop in surrey and broke the left and right side of her jaw, her chin, and under her nose where the teeth connect. She also broke many teeth and one was on the verge of falling out. She required to have oral surgery where they removed a couple teeth and now has her mouth wired shut. They were able to add a plate to the left side of her jaw and add a plate above her chin. She has wire and pins above her front teeth.
Tavia will require somebody to be with her 24/7 for at least the next 6 weeks because of her uncontrolled seizures. Her mother has had to take an unpaid leave from work to be with Tavia. Tavia will not be able to work at BC Place in security for at least the next couple of months . She will also need many dental visits.
It will be a tough and long recovery for not only Tavia but the whole Marlatt family.
