One of the central missions of the ORIGINS Project Foundation is to explore and explain pivotal developments across the full spectrum of human culture to help address our most pressing local and global issues. High on the list of global issues is Climate Change, which will remain a central issue of both public and legislative debate in coming years.
The mantra “follow the science” has become popular of late as the new Administration in Washington vows to fight the current pandemic and to “make everything we do based on science and evidence”.
Unfortunately, when it comes to climate change, a great deal of misinformation exists on the web, and politicians from both sides of the aisle are making inaccurate statements. It is vitally important that policies that address this issue not be based on partisan politics, but on evidence.
Neither politicians, nor members of the general public can be expected to be scientific experts, but they can rely on them. Moreover, a detailed working knowledge of all scientific complexities is not required to put the problem in appropriate perspective. A basic understanding of the science behind climate change should be accessible to all.
It is for this reason that The ORIGINS Project Foundation is raising money to send a copy of The Physics of Climate Change* to every member of the new House and Senate, as well as to members of the executive branch. The purpose is not to lobby for specific actions, but to provide the scientific context in which actions can be meaningfully debated. Sound policies must follow the science.
Help us at The ORIGINS Project Foundation in this program to help educate legislators. We are hoping to raise $10,000, which will cover the (deeply discounted) cost of the book purchases from the publisher, plus mailing costs. Existing ORIGINS Project donors have already donated $4000, and we are hoping to make up the additional $6000 with this campaign. Our plan is to transmit the books to Congress at the end of February. Consider donating any amount to help. The Origins Project is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt foundations and all donations will be tax deductible as allowed by local laws.
