Hi, my name is Hannah, and I’m fundraising for one of my best friends. Last summer, my friend was hit by a car while biking, and they are still paying costs from that accident. They were charged $2,747 last month, which depleted their savings account.

On top of this, they’ve been having trouble with their ankle for months. They sprained it last year but were never able to get the proper care for it because of lack of funds. This means that for months their ankle has been hurting them. They haven’t been able to comfortably come to get togethers at our friends’ fourth-floor apartment. This weekend, they wanted to join trash clean-up in our city with my friends and me for Earth Day but had to cancel because there would be too much walking. They are someone who loves riding bikes, especially now that the weather is getting warmer, but they can’t because of pain in their ankle.

I’m happy to say that they are finally seeing an orthopedist and going to physical therapy to get the care they need for their ankle. However, they can’t continue to do so without help with funds. Their insurance deductibles are high, and they have been billed $500 for their appointment with the orthopedist and $150 for an evaluation for physical therapy. Each visit to physical therapy costs $90, and the doctor gave them a referral to go to twelve appointments. New costs keep coming.

My friend is a full-time student without a steady income who also helps support their parents. We go to a small university without comprehensive health services, so payments to the school do not cover health care. This means that they are responsible for paying the high deductibles that come with their insurance on their own. We have tried to access other avenues of support, but they have not been enough.

Please help us with this fundraising, so that my friend can access the health care they need. This upcoming summer, I’d really love to see them mobile, without pain, and able to do the things that make them happy again.
