We are reaching out with heavy hearts to share the story of Travis R., a United States Marine Corp veteran, dedicated skydiving instructor and a kind, funny friend who has faced an unthinkable and traumatic incident.
About Travis: Travis is not just a military veteran; he served our country with honor, dedication and courage. After his military service, Travis found a new purpose in life - sharing the thrill of skydiving with others regardless of age, race or gender. His outgoing nature and gentle way always put his customers at ease. Travis was naturally selected as the Instructor of the Year 2021 for Skydive San Diego where he continues to be an integral part of the instructor team.
The Incident: In a shocking turn of events on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Travis was attending a concert at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, enjoying a much-earned moment of relaxation. However, the evening took a horrifying turn when he became the victim of a senseless act of violence. Travis was attacked in the parking lot by a group of men which left him gravely injured.
The injuries sustained are severe and include fractures of both cheeks, a fractured eye socket, multiple facial lacerations with a substantial reconstruction of the lip and serious damage to the left eye that may result in permanent vision loss. This has resulted in extensive medical treatment, multiple surgeries and ongoing rehabilitation and therapy. The trauma of this incident has taken a toll on not only Travis, but everyone who loves and cares for him. As he embarks on this challenging process of recovery, we believe that showing him our unwavering support can make a significant difference in his healing process.
Why Your Support Matters: We are setting up this GoFundMe campaign to rally around Travis during this incredibly difficult time. The medical bills, therapy costs and daily expenses will add an overwhelming financial burden to his already challenging situation. Our goal is to alleviate some of the burdens and allow Travis to focus on his recovery without the added stress of mounting expenses or lack of ability to gain access to medical services due to cost.
Beyond the financial aspect, your messages of encouragement and solidarity can play a crucial role in boosting Travis’ spirits. Let’s come together as a community to remind him that he is not alone on this journey.
How You Can Help: Your contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a profound impact on Travis’ life. Your donation will go directly towards covering medical expenses, therapy sessions and the various costs associated with his recovery process. Additionally, sharing this campaign with your friends, family and social networks can help us reach a wider audience and gather the support Travis needs.
We believe in the power of compassion and unity. As a community, we can lift Travis from the depths of this tragedy and help him regain his strength, physically and emotionally. Thank you for taking the time to read Travis’ story. Your generosity and support mean the world to us and to Travis.
With heartfelt appreciation, the Skydive San Diego team
