Hello everyone, and thank you for reading this.
When I moved to New York I never thought I was going to be in this situation, but life has given me some challenges that are becoming too much to handle by myself. I need to ask for help.
As some of you may know, I’m an international graduate student (MFA) at Pratt Institute. I was able to come thanks to scholarships, multiple jobs on campus, taking on a big debt (loans from multiple sources), selling all my belongings, and help from my family (aside from years of work).
Like a lot of people, I was struggling to keep up with life expenses in New York. Sudden loss of income, and family emergencies (almost every week for a month) made me consider pausing my studies, and going back to Peru. After investing so much to get here, the idea felt unreasonable so I decided to keep pushing for my goals.
At the beginning of the year I was able to bring my beautiful dog, Trusa. I got her with 1 month, and she’s being my emotional support for almost 6 years. This week she became ill and started to show really worrying symptoms, we had to visit vets, and the emergency room. Suddenly, I am facing outrageous bills (adding up to my already overwhelming student debt).
I’ve been working, and trying to find ways to balance my financial situation while keeping my productivity at school and my studio practice as an artist, but it’s getting harder with some of these emergencies.
My tuition fund for the rest of the year has been affected, and I really need assistance to accomplish my degree and get on track.
The goal that I’ve set for this gofundme would cover the emergency medical expenses for Trusa, a small portion of my tuition fee for this semester, some urgent living expenses, and materials for work.
I’m thankful for all the amazing friends, opportunities, and love I’ve gotten from all these experiences. I would also like to say that I don’t think my cause deserves any more attention than others, I know the world is going through a lot of bigger issues than mine, I completely understand my privilege to be even in this position. for that reason I’m open to job opportunities within the limits allowed in my VISA status and full time student status.
