Helping a wonderful woman, my mom!

Donation protected
About 2 years ago my mom, Lauri Ruhl, was diagnosed with colon cancer. There was a tumor and that tumor was small, that was good right? The bad news was the cancer from that tumor had already moved to her liver by the time it was discovered. Over the last few years she has gone through many chemo and radiation treatments. She was in remission for approx 4 months over last summer (2014). In the fall her tumor markers were back and she needed more aggressive treatment. This also led to her having to take a leave of absence from her job as a registered nurse at Seattle children's hospital. The good news of all of this treatment is she has awesome support! The List: My grandparents Joe and Mic Ruhl have been by her side since the start. Grandpa Joe takes her to all her appointments and is dutiful on asking questions to doctors. My wife Meghan and in laws Jim and Patty, moms ex husbands Todd (my dad) and Pat have given their wonderful moral support. And many other friends (racing, choir, work) and family have been spectacular!

Her job: my mom's job has always been a great love and sense of pride. She loves children . She has worked at SCH for over 39 years with 25 of them as a pediatric RN. She's worked in ICU's and clinics but her main love is the emergency room. I got the opportunity to work closely with her rightout of college as a hospital security officer, and saw first hand daily the passion she puts into it.

Her career is just one aspect of life she gives her all. She sings in a community choir (and has for nearly 40 years) that last summer took her on a journey through Europe and its massive cathedrals. Germany, Italy, and France for two weeks was a trip of a lifetime for her, especially while in remission.

Mother: She is the best mother I could have asked for in this life. She has always been supportive of me in all my endeavors, whether she agrees with them or not! Boat racing being the main one! She has and continues to always be there for me and now my new wife, Meghan. I am an only child so now she gets to have a daughter too! Now I want to be there for her.

Why am I asking for help?
Moms leave of absence from SCH has left her using COBRA insurance, which is $300 a month out of pocket. They cover a great deal but she has been left with numorous medical bills to cover out of pocket as well. Right now she is close to $8,000 from a recent interventional radiology treatment called a Y90. And that's only so far. Her main source of income is disability through her insurance. That covers basics. She's also pulled significant money from her IRA. Without a spouse to help support her financially she is left with mounting medical debt and no end to how much she will have to continue to cover while not working.

All I am asking to $10 a person to help start covering her medical costs. Anything helps. I really appreciate anyone's and everyone's kindness and love for my mom. She's a pretty awesome person! God bless.
