Recovery for Double G (Gordon Griffin)

Hello. My name is Joyce Griffin, and I am the wife of Gordon Griffin. Gordon is a loving husband and a wonderful father to two lovely daughters, Lizz and Abby. Gordon is a local news broadcaster in the DFW market.

On October 10, 2023, Gordon suffered a bilateral stroke which later converted to a hemorrhagic stroke. In the last month Gordon has progressed through the Neural ICU to a rehabilitation hospital to his present stay in a skilled nursing facility.

He is battling to overcome many obstacles that will keep him from living an independent life. He has a long battle ahead to regain lost skills and overcome deficits created by the stroke. While he has recovered greatly in some areas, speech and cognition is still a struggle. Gordon has expressive aphasia and struggles to communicate clearly. This is particularly frustrating for him because you know Gordon is a talker. :)

While he is currently in a skilled nursing home, it is our (his family's) desire to bring him home as soon as possible and have him take part in an intensive therapy program at PATE Rehabilitation Neuro Therapy which specializes in stroke and traumatic brain injury recovery. We would have loved to have sent him there directly but insurance does not cover inpatient therapy.

Throughout this whole process, we have been so blessed by the outpouring of love and prayers we have received by those around us. We would absolutely not made it through this without them. If I have failed to respond to you personally, know that they were received with gratefulness by all of us. I am working hard to maintain a sense of normalcy for Abby while attending to my own career and juggling Gordon's recovery needs. Our family asks for continued prayers and well wishes.

Many have reached out asking how to help us during these difficult times. While I am not completely comfortable with the idea of reaching out for help, a friend suggested starting a GoFundMe to help with the medical bills accrued to this point, future therapy bills, and lost wages.

Please know that God has us in His hands, and we know that He will see us through these difficult times. Your continued prayers for Gordon and our family is more than enough. This GoFund Me was created as a venue for those that have reached out and want to help in a more tangible way.
