Maverick’s fight for life began the moment he entered this world.
He was born with jejunal atresia, a life-threatening condition that caused his premature delivery and required immediate surgery upon birth on November 2nd. From his very first breath, Maverick has known nothing but courage. He spent one month in the NICU at Boston Children’s Hospital, where his tiny body endured more than any newborn ever should. During that time, he suffered multiple blood clots and infections, fighting relentlessly until doctors finally felt it was safe to send him home. But Maverick’s battle was far from over.
Within just a few days of being home, everything changed. He began showing signs of severe distress, his belly started ballooning, he was clearly in pain, and he began to vomit bile. We rushed him back to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he began to decline rapidly.
Since being re-admitted, Maverick has faced unimaginable complications. He has required three blood transfusions, developed another blood clot, and has been experiencing bradycardia episodes. He endured two failed intubation attempts, and during a medical procedure, Maverick went into cardiac arrest and required CPR to revive him.
As a result of the failed intubation and cardiac arrest, Maverick developed tracheomalacia and suffered a collapsed lung.
On December 23rd, surgeons were forced to remove a larger portion of his intestines to allow for a better connection and placed a G-tube for drainage and feeding. At this time, Maverick has not yet begun to eat orally or through his G-tube. All of his hydration and nutrition are being delivered through a PICC line.
Through all of this, Maverick continues to fight with a strength that leaves us in awe.
Both of us have been living in the NICU, staying by Maverick’s side every single day as he recovers, and we are expecting to remain here for another one to two months as his journey continues.
We are asking for help, not just for the financial burden of extended hospitalization, medical care, and time away from work, but for the chance to focus fully on our son’s survival. Maverick has already beaten impossible odds, and with continued support, he can keep fighting.
Thank you for standing with Maverick. Every share, every donation, and every prayer means more than words can express.
