This is every singer's worst nightmare! My friend, singer/songwriter Lucy Jarrett, found a lump that kept bleeding on her right tonsil in Oct 2018 and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Tonsil cancer in November 2018. After a tonsillectomy and MRI scans, she then endured neck dissection to remove enlarged nodes with extra capsular spread into the neck tissues, including the partial removal of the right soft palate and the right side of her tongue.
6 weeks of intensive radiotherapy, with two bouts of chemotherapy, commenced last week and a PEG was fitted to ensure Lucy receives life-saving epilepsy medication and nutrition while she's unable to swallow. She will also go through intense speech therapy to hopefully restore full vocal function after treatment.
Although Lucy works for the National Health Service, her sick-pay has already run out, meaning Lucy will be unable to pay her rent or bills for at least the next six months of incapacitation. With her very livelihood - her beautiful voice - hanging in the balance, I am asking all my friends, but especially the music fans amongst you, to please urgently donate what you can to see Lucy through treatment safely.
