Hi, My name is Devoneau Keith and I set this go fund me up to rally the community in support of a worthy cause. My friend, Tavia McLean, is a passionate and determined young woman who has dreamed of becoming a doctor since age six.
Borrowing the words from Nelson Mandela, I wholeheartedly believe that "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Let us come together to help Tavia. Let us unite and change one life that will tremendously impact the world.
Read more of Tavia's story below:
Growing up in Jamaica, I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges in our healthcare system—long waits, overburdened staff, and limited resources. When I broke my arm as a child, I spent nearly 9 hours waiting for care. My mother, who struggles with chronic health issues, often waits over four hours at clinics, and my nephew’s battle with sickle cell disease has highlighted the urgent need for better treatment options.
I am deeply committed to improving healthcare in Jamaica. I was accepted into the self-financing MBBS program at the University of the West Indies, meaning I cannot receive a government subsidy. Unfortunately, Student Loans only cover a quarter of the tuition, and my family, though supportive, cannot support me financially—my mother is unemployed due to illness, and my father earns a modest salary as a chauffeur.
I’m asking for your support to fund my medical education. Every contribution brings me closer to making a difference. I appreciate your kindness!
Every dollar donated will go directly to my tuition which is 28000 USD for the year.
