It’s impossible not to fall in love with Max’s sweet teddy bear face. Max isn’t just a pet, he’s truly part of our family. My mom Joyce and dad Lenny adore him and he brings so much happiness and light into their lives every single day.

Recently, we noticed Max was hesitant and in pain when trying to jump or even walk up steps, something he used to do with ease. Worried, my parents rushed him to the vet, hoping for good news. Instead, we learned that Max has medial luxating patella in both legs. This means his kneecaps are slipping out of place, causing him significant pain, limping, and making it difficult for him to run, play, or even get comfortable when resting. The condition has already led to inflammation and discomfort, and without surgery, Max could suffer from torn ligaments, joint instability, and severe arthritis that would leave him in constant pain.

The only way to help Max regain his mobility and quality of life is through surgery on both knees. It’s a complex and expensive procedure, but it’s necessary to prevent further damage and give Max the chance to be his happy, playful self again.

This news hit us especially hard because it comes after a tough year and a difficult month. My dad, Lenny, was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and will also need major surgery. Processing all of this during the holidays has been overwhelming for our family.
