Post Surgery Financial Assistance
With a humble heart I reach out to my family and friends. As some of you may know, in April of this year I was diagnosed with degenerative cervical disc disease, cervical radiculopathy & spinal stenosis, cervicalgia and rotor cuff tendonitis and was given strict "no work" orders from my Ortho doctor. To sum up the issues, I had 2 herniated discs in my neck that was putting serious pressure on the spinal cord & pinching the nerve that effected my left arm & shoulder with pain & weakness. On May 30th I went through a successful cervical fusion surgery and am continuing recovery. The issues come about from wear and tear over the years which for me has been years of pottery making, teaching pottery, art shows, art markets and my side work as a bartender and waitress.
Of course at this stage, I think, "if I had known better, I would have planned better". And I also don't want family & friends to feel bad and say "why didn't you call, why didn't you let us know". Many of you know that I have been an independent, get it done, I'll get through this kind of woman and I thought this would be a good avenue to spread the word.
Unfortunately I am going on 3 months of no work so no income. I have tapped into resources and some friends & family have helped which I am so grateful for but these resources are limited . Also unknown to many, I am being treated for PTSD which comes with great restrictions in my ability to work up to this point. Mental health issues are no joke & something that needs to be talked about more. With the physical issue, I'm looking at another month before I can really get back to work and of course it will be at a slow pace, but I have projects planned & look forward to getting back to my art work. At this point I ask my family & friends if they are able to assist financially in any amount possible. And what I would like to do as a THANK YOU, is to offer my 3 highest contributors a piece of my pottery that is comparable in price as to their donation. Because all in all, I will heal, I will be able to get back to work, it just comes down to limited resources available to me at this time. If you have read through my ramblings, thank you!
