Help Save Barry

Hi everyone, Daena here. Many of you know Barry as the goofy and loving dog that Dante and I share. On Tuesday, May 30th, we took him to the vet for a suspected bug bite causing swelling to his face. He was given antibiotics and sent home. In the following days we watched him closely, but his condition worsened. By Saturday, June 3rd, the swelling had spread to his chest and legs and deep abscesses began opening, primarily on his chest. We rushed to have him hospitalized at VERC (Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center).

Barry’s condition is extremely critical. His symptoms suggest necrotizing fasciitis, flesh eating bacteria. We are facing our worst nightmare. We hope to have the bacterial culture results back in 3-4 days to confirm the diagnosis. Until then, the doctors and staff are treating him with the strongest/broadest intravenous antibiotics available to them. Barry is fighting for his life. Even in the best case scenario he will need continual treatment and hospitalization, including surgery to remove the tissue that has been killed.

We want to be able to provide him with the best possible care. Unfortunately, hospitalization and treatment is incredibly expensive. We have already come close to draining all of our savings in this attempt to save Barry’s life. By donating, you will be directly ensuring that he will continue to receive this lifesaving treatment.

I will be including a brief itemized summary of the costs, already incurred and expected.

We are currently waiting on the antibiotics to help stabilize his condition, but there have been no significant changes in the last 24 hours since beginning them.
