Join us in Summitting Kilimanjaro for a Good Cause: In support of Child and Youth Care Zimbabwe

This August, 8 first time adventurers from the Nyakambangwe family comprising of parents and children (The Crazy Bunch) will embark on an extraordinary journey to summit Mount Kilimanjaro.

But this is not just a personal challenge; it is a mission with a profound purpose. They are climbing to raise funds for Child and Youth Care Zimbabwe, an NGO dedicated to establishing the first Clinic for Genetic Disorders in Zimbabwe at the University of Zimbabwe.

Why This Clinic Matters

In Zimbabwe, children with genetic disorders face immense challenges. There is a significant lack of facilities that can provide the specialized care they need, leading to misdiagnosis, inadequate treatment, and poor quality of life. The proposed clinic aims to change this by:

- Screening and Diagnosis: Facilitating comprehensive screening and accurate diagnosis for various genetic disorders, ensuring that children receive the correct treatment from the outset.

- Standards of Care: Providing access to internationally recognized standards of care tailored to each specific genetic disorder, ensuring optimal treatment and management.

- Palliative Care: Offering compassionate palliative care for children with symptom onset, improving comfort and quality of life during their most vulnerable times.

Our Goals

1. Evidence-Based Programming: The clinic will collect and analyze data on rare diseases, which is crucial for effective programming, monitoring, and evaluation. This evidence will guide the modification of service delivery to better meet the needs of children with genetic disorders.

2. Access to Medical Products: By sourcing and providing necessary medical products, the clinic will enhance access to care, ensuring that children receive the medications and treatments they need.

3. Improving Quality of Life: Ultimately, the clinic aims to improve the quality of life for children with genetic disorders through better care, support, and treatment options.
