Rescue Border Collie Rescue Tasmania

My Name is Kirsty and I am fundraising on behalf of Border Collie Rescue, Rehome and Sanctuary Tasmania.

We are fundraising to help Border Collie Rescue, Rehome & Sanctuary Tasmania survive. The rescue founded by Rachel Spillane in March 2020. Rachel runs the rescue and sanctuary on her 52 acre farm in Pipers River. A passionate Border collie owner for 25 years, Rachel prior to establishing the rescue and sanctuary has taken into her home and family many dogs with disabilities and health issues including dogs who are deaf, vision impaired, a dog with an intrahepatic liver shunt another with a life threatening heart condition, dogs suffering from anxiety as a result of genetics, abuse or neglect.

Rachel established a Facebook group Border Collies... Be Social Tasmania 10 years ago with the primary goal of educating and advocating for the breed she loves. This Facebook group regularly shared and assisted in the rehoming of dogs found advertised on gumtree and other dogs who belonged to members and the wider community. Rachel became increasingly aware of how poorly Border collies do in kennelled type rescue environments, these dogs often become stressed and anxious, their needs to be both physically exercised and mentally stimulated not adequately provide for. This was not the fault of the rescue caring for these dogs but the nature and temperament of the breed make it impossible with limited resources, space and time in a day to adequately provide for the needs of Border collies in their care. It was then that Rachel decide to take the giant step towards creating a rescue. For the first few months the rescue operated without a name and on the Border Collies... Be Social Tasmania Facebook page, but it became apparent that this rescue was going to be much bigger than initially planned and what was only to be 1 or 2 extra dogs in care quickly grew to 10 rescue dogs with more waiting to come into care.

Border Collie Rescue, Rehome and Sanctuary Tasmania in the first year found amazing homes for 42 dogs. Most Border Collies our Border Collie crosses but also Koolies and Smithfields. The rescue is entirely reliant on the generosity of the general public and businesses to fund the ongoing care of the dogs. The rescue prides itself on providing exceptional care for every dog that it takes in. The dogs live in a home environment, receiving love and socialisation while they have all vet work completed including being desexed, vaccinated , microchipped and wormed. All dogs are fed a premium dog food plus other quality food to ensure they are healthy. While in the care of the rescue a very careful and thorough process is followed to ensure each dog finds their perfect home, a home where there is an understanding of the breeds needs and a commitment to provide that dog with the very best life.

Unless we can raise substantial funds Rachel will need to close the rescue which will be a huge loss. The featured dog is Bo a 4 year old rescue who was surrendered to Rachel and adopted by my family.

Please dig deep, this is a very worthy cause and it would be a massive loss if Rachel needs to close.
