Dennis Farber has been a friend to many and a teacher to many more. No one we know could light up a room faster, or bring a smile quicker than Denny. Or, for that matter, capture an image better. His work is in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and many other public and private collections around the world.
Denny has shared his gifts generously, teaching art for forty plus years, first at the University of New Mexico and then for the bulk of his career at Maryland Institute College of Art, where he was a popular instructor and dean of students.
But now he needs our help.
Four years ago he was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous tumor in his lung. Years of chemotherapy and radiation have kept him alive, but they have also sickened and weakened him, drained his bank account, and left him physically, financially, and emotionally in terrible shape.
He is receiving treatments at Johns Hopkins but needs a place to live out his life, with essentially around the clock care. His social security checks would cover about half the cost of an assisted living facility. We need to make up the rest.
Time is important here. He has a roof over his head for now, but he needs a facility with skilled nursing care. The difference between what he can afford and what that will cost is around $2000 a month.
No one knows how long Denny will survive. He has already beaten dire predictions. In his current condition, he weighs less than 120 pounds, walks only with assistance, and needs skilled care. Whatever time he has, we want him to be comfortable and without the added worry of crushing living expenses. All of us, pulling together, can make that a reality.
Go Fund Me makes it easy to contribute. You can use their secure credit card system. Or you can send a check to Denny’s brother, Marty Farber, at 233 Camino Arroyo N., Palm Desert, CA 92260. The site also provides for personal messages to Denny. You can also e-mail him at [email redacted].
Thanks for your support. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
