Brandon is a 36-year-old Deputy Sergeant who has been serving the citizens of Ashe County, North Carolina since September 2013, at the Ashe County Sheriff's Office. He is a loving father and husband, a dedicated officer of the law. Working for the Sheriff’s department has always been a passion of his but recently, Brandon has had to make a very difficult decision and will be taking a Medical disability retirement from Law Enforcement.

In 2018, he started having passing-out episodes upon exertion. He was referred by his cardiologist to Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte where two Heart ablations were performed. Brandon experienced continued symptoms and was diagnosed with Hyperadrenic POTS. At this time, he was referred to a renowned Electrophysiologist Dr. Blair Grubb at the University of Toledo, who specializes in the autonomic nervous system. After almost two years of waiting, he was able to get his first appointment in the fall of 2021. Brandon had an inner-loop recorder implanted and was informed he needed a pacemaker due to being diagnosed with Sick Sinus Syndrome. This procedure was performed in the Spring of 2022 and seemed to help the passing out episodes but continued to have other symptoms and started to experience A-fib.

At the start of this year, his symptoms progressively got worse and has caused him to be admitted into Forsyth Medical Center on two separate occasions. Each lasting roughly four days. Several different tests were administered, and he was diagnosed with Stage 2 Congestive Heart Failure. Due to multiple doctors disagreeing with each other, the only treatment that has been started has been a Diuretic to decrease the extensive fluid he has had on his chest. This unfortunately is taking a toll on his kidneys, which are not tolerating it well. In March, Brandon had to advocate for himself and reached out to Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion on the Heart Failure Diagnosis. His first appointment was in early May. Many tests were ordered including a Right Heart Cath, this will be done in Cleveland, Ohio in July which will be a four-day trip.
The difficult decision to take leave will decrease the income of their household significantly, as well as losing their current paid health insurance. Donations will help decrease the extreme burden of travel expenses to and from Cleveland Clinic, as well as future visits to his provider in Toledo. They will also help alleviate some of the financial strain incurred by having to leave his employment.

Thank you so much for your donations and for interacting with this page and sharing his story. This family deserves all the help in the world and appreciates you so much!
