I am writing on behalf of my brother, who needs help. I am trying to help him keep his home and pay utilities. He is a Marine that served actively 94-98 in VMGR-252 Powerline and as a civilian contractor with Lockheed Martin until December 2014. In 2013 at Christmas with family, he suffered a Grand Mal seizure. That is when we found out that he had been having 1-2 dozen petite seizures daily. He was told that he could not drive or work until they are under control. Thankfully he has only had 3 Grand Mal seizures since then. He suffers about a dozen petite mal seizures daily until they changed his medications. He still suffers daily. He has been on disability since Christmas.

Since Christmas, his wife has left because of Marital Issues ( we are trying to resolve). He now only sees his children every other weekend. His son will be 8 in November and daughter will be 5 in February. ( I have made sure that they will have presents. My 3 teenagers have decided to giving up getting gift among ourselves to give them the best birthdays and Christmas that we can).
He has been denied SSI ,has no VA benifits and disability has been cancelled even though he has 15 months more that he should receive. He has gone through all of his savings. Only assistance that he has is food assistance that is less than $200 a month. They have denied medical assistance and he is unable to make appointment needed and pay for medication. I am trying to make sure that he has medication, but he needs to make doctor appointment to continue to get the medication and he cannot afford the doctor appointments. With each seizure that he has it effects his brain. I have watched my brother lose memories, forget his train of thought, forget words. Issues with control over bodily functions, unable to do things because they cause more seizures. Just trying to mow the lawn is beyond what he can do. He has to depend on others to drive him for food and appointments.
Family is helping as much as we can, but we are working class and live paycheck to paycheck. and it only goes so far. Family can only help from a distance because we live in different states. If he were to move, he would not be able to see his children. Plus if he loses his house he loses his VA benefits or so we are told. He is working on getting disability, but it can take more time than he has. He will lose his home. I am hoping that people will help him keep his home and pay for utilities, until he can get back on his feet.
He has always prided himself on providing for himself and his family and helping others. He has gladly opened his arms, home and pocket book to help others not expecting anything in return. He was taught as I was, that you have to work for what you have. You depend on yourself, not others. But I have learned that sometimes everyone needs a little help, and that there are always people that want to help. It is the hardest thing he has to do to ask for help. So I am asking for help, because he has asked me to help him.
