My name is Mary Kate Kelly Vacca, my brothers Mark & Timmy , my sister Patty along with our spouses and children are joining forces to help our sister Ann Kelly. She is only 51 years old and had a brain stem stroke on June 14 2015. My father Mike Kelly found her sitting on her floor in her bedroom in a daze, barely conscious, early that terrible Sunday morning.
Doctors at JFK Medical Center at Edison quickly found a major blockage in the back of her head and after a 5 and 1/2 hour major surgery, were able to save her life by clearing the blood clots quickly, but still, there was major brain damage.
For days she was in ICU in a coma, then one day her eyes opened, we were so grateful. Days went by with no progress, the doctors said she was in a 'locked-in syndrome state' meaning she was aware but cannot move or communicate due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body except for her eyes.
After a few weeks Annie slowly came out of it and miraculously was able to move her head and neck. No communication though, you see Annie was BORN DEAF and never did talk or hear anything.
She has since been living in a very nice acute care unit of JFK Hartwyk at Edison Estates in New Jersey. Now almost 5 months have passed since here stroke and she is still a quadriplegic confined to her bed and a wheel chair. The doctors do not know what the future holds, we are all praying for a miracle.
We , the family have decided to ask for your help because the expenses will be mounting as time goes on. Medicaid has stopped paying for an interpreter as well as her physical and speech therapist.
Annie needs a geriatric powered wheel chair so we can mount her oxygen tank to it and take her out more often. We are also looking at a few new options to help her communicate electronically.
We would be very grateful for any contributions you can make as soon as possible.
Thank you for your prayers, donation's and support,
The Kelly Family
