Mila's Medical Expenses

Little Mila just turned six years old, and she is still suffering. In the last two years, doctors continue to search for answers as to what exactly is causing her pain and what the proper course of treatment should be. Mila’s diagnosis has been upgraded to Stage 2 Chronic Kidney Disease. Her diagnosis also includes: Grade 3 Hydronephrosis, Enlarged Bladder,Pyonephrosis, Recurrent UTI, Renal Scarring, Vesicoureteral Reflux, Chronic Constipation.

As you can imagine from the diagnoses, Mila suffers from painful symptoms little children should not have to endure. She has had numerous blood draws, been on several medications, and undergone extensive testing. To date, Mila has had four surgeries. She is scheduled for an endoscopy and another colonoscopy in the coming weeks. Depending on the results, she may need two additional surgeries.

Mila’s medical trouble began as an infant, keeping her parents not only in a constant state of worry for their little girl, but also financial uncertainty. Deductibles, co-pays, medication, and travel expenses have taken its toll on Kane and Alexis’s growing family. Although they have health insurance, they are required to pay a significant portion of Mila’s upcoming tests up front.

The Grammers have greatly appreciated all the support they’ve received thus far. If you are able to help them during this stressful and uncertain time, they will be ever so grateful. All they wish for is for Mila to be healthy and pain free.

Meet Mila - a sweet, active four year old from St. John's, FL who needs our help! 

She suffers from hydroureteronephrosis, calyces, vesicoureteric reflux, and recurring UTIs. In layman's terms, chronic kidney disease (https://www.kidney.org/ ). She is seen by a urologist, nephrologist, gastroenterologist, and a voiding doctor in Jacksonville and Orlando, Florida, and at Johns Hopkins in Maryland. Part of Mila's condition was discovered in utero. Soon after, her parents began the journey for answers and relief. Mila has since endured many doctor and emergency room visits, a lot of pain, and one surgery with another pending. She now has confirmed diagnoses, but her road to comfort and healing is far from over.

The expenses for Mila's care not only include physicians, surgery, and hospital visits, but also medication and travel. 

Her parents, high school sweethearts, Kane and Alexis Grammer are doing all they can to give Mila the care she needs while also raising their other sweet daughter, Alayna. To date, Mila's care has almost surpassed $1,000,000.

UPDATE 1 - Mila is currently being treated for her kidney disease, but she has faced a few setbacks. She has suffered hearing loss in her left ear as a side affect of her disease. She is scheduled for further testing on her kidneys, ears, and GI tract. Mila's mom, Alexis recently gave birth to baby number three. Baby Riley seems to be in perfect health, but Alexis suffered some birth injuries requiring two surgeries. Although her health insurance provides some relief, the bills continue to pile up. Many of you have been so gracious in helping Alexis and her family, and they are so grateful. If you are able to contribute to her medical fund, the gratitude will surely continue.***
