My name is Eliza and my mom Kate is currently battling stage 3 Endometrial Sarcoma. My mom was diagnosed in late July and had a full hysterectomy on September 29th. The pre-surgical biopsy revealed grade one cancer, which we were told is a very slow-growing and non-aggressive form of cancer. After mom’s surgery, the doctor took me in a small room and, with a grave face, he told me that their initial pathology showed more aggressive forms of cancer in the tissue that was removed.
We found out on October 17th that her official diagnosis is Stage 3 Endometrial Sarcoma. She starts chemotherapy tomorrow, 10/31/2023 and will be undergoing chemo and radiation over a period of six months.
Apart from medical expenses, my mom has been a contract technical writer for almost 18 years and does not have the benefits of any paid time off or short-term disability. When she doesn’t work, she doesn’t get paid. She has already missed almost three weeks of work between the surgery and Covid, this month, and without her income our household will not be able to make ends meet.
My mom and I live together and have shared custody of my two-and-a-half-year-old twin boys, who love their grandma dearly. I work a full-time job, but my income alone will not sustain us.
Please help! My mom is my best friend and my boys and I cannot lose her!
