Helping Haley Heal
Donation protected
This is Haley and her labradoodle, Addy. I met Haley when she interviewed and was hired to help take care of Judah; our son with Down syndrome. When I met Haley she was waiting for Addy to come into her life. You see, Haley has a rare disease called Addison's disease. Addison's disease occurs when adrenal glands don't produce enough cortisol. When your body doesn't have enough cortisol it is life threatening and for Haley it was once a very close call. This crisis is characterized by low blood pressure; something Addy was trained to sniff out and alert Haley of. Haley spent a great deal of time researching, finding, and securing her life saving pet. She waited months for him and started a gofundme to help pay the $15,000 that it would cost to train and transport him to Syracuse.
When Haley and Addy finally met, it was serendipitous. In fact, once at our house, we watched Addy paw at her because her blood sugar was so low that she needed a snack. Addy was trained to smell and recognize the difference in her saliva. Animals and medical science were uniting to keep our sweet Haley safe.
Sunday at noon, while Haley was walking her beloved dog on a leash, a car pulled out and sped in front of them. As Addy moved in front of Haley, he was struck by the vehicle and eventually died. The driver sped away and still has not been caught.
I am asking this. I am asking us to band together in an effort to help Haley heal? I'm asking if we can collectively carry the burden of the $8,000 she still has to pay for Addy. I'm asking for us to carry her into healing by helping her get a new dog. It costs $15,000 for a new life saving animal that Haley NEEDS to live independently. It will cost all of us something. But the $30,000 we raise together will overshadow some of her trauma, heal her heart and ultimately, probably, save her life.
My name is Beth Craver (1) from Syracuse, NY (2) Haley is our babysitter (3) Haley will be using the money to pay off the service dog she lost and to purchase a new one (5) I will be sending gofundme Haley's email so that she can handle the funding.
