For Shane!

In December 2020 Shame became unwell and found it difficult to swallow, after investigations Shane was diagnosed a month later with Squamous Cell Oesophageal Cancer.

Squamous Cell Oesophageal Cancer is very rare, especially in young men like Shane. By April Shane started a harsh programme of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and underwent a massive 12.5 hour operation to remove the cancer, 26 Lymph nodes and part of his stomach. His stomach has now been joined to a healthy part of his oesophagus.

The operation appeared to be a success, Lisa, Shane his parents, brother and kids had some hope, until 5 days later Shane had to be put in an induced coma after the operation had complications and the surgery caused a fluid leak around the lungs.

His family were made aware of how serious this was, doctors were doing all they could to save Shane’s life.
After 8 days, Shane’s personality and determination to fight, shone through and helped him pull through and start a slow recovery to get his strength back up to return home to his family.

Shane and his loving family had further bad news, 6 of the lymph nodes that were removed were found to contain cancer cells. His oncologist advised he was too weak for anymore chemo treatment after all that he had been through. Shane then focused for the next few months on gaining some strength and having a close to normal life.

After another operation to remove a lump of scar tissue that had grown and a couple more hospital visits further bad news was given to Shane and his family that this was also cancerous.

Shane went on to have scans which revealed the devastating news that Shane now has cancerous cells all around his bowel, all up his spine and possibly his liver. Shane’s cancer is no longer curable!

Shane is doing all he can to gain some strength to be able to undergo more treatment, which will hopefully prolong his life.

For now his heartbroken family have been doing all they can to help and support Shane, watching someone you love in pain daily, deteriorating has got to be the most painful thing to see.

His small children, Chelsea 10 who has already lost her mom 2 years ago, Shane has full custody and lives with Shane and his parents, Step daughter Izabelle, who sees Shane as a father, his 2 boys,Kian 6 & Corey 3.
Their lives have changed so much in the last year while all this devastation has been going on.

Both Chelsea and Izabelle have both asked Santa this year for their daddy to be better…

Lisa, his loving and devoted partner to Shane has had a year from hell, supporting Shane through this nightmare it has been the most stressful and upsetting time for her. The strength of this lady!

A special mention to Shane’s parents, John & Linda, providing around the clock care doing everything they can to keep Shane as comfortable as possible alongside working and taking care of grandkids, Shane is very lucky to have them along with Lance his younger brother keeping Shane active and social, popping out to see his mates when he is well enough.

Shane has always been hard working. He was a firefighter at the MOD and a retainer firefighter for Newport Fire Station for many years and is no longer able to work.

Shane mentioned writing a bucket list, things he wants to do to make some happy memories with his devoted and loving family. Depending on the strength he can build up, I hope we can raise enough money to be able to tick off as many things as he can and enjoy his time with his family.

If nothing else, if we can relieve Shane of financial stress at this time so he can prepare for the fight ahead, please do donate and we would be very grateful for any amount you can give.

We will keep you updated on the progress of the campaign and updates on Shane’s health and fight.

Thank you for reading.
