Help Us Finish "The Other Foot" – A Powerful Film About Consent

We’re almost there! After months of hard work, we've shot everything for "The Other Foot", a short film that tackles the important and often difficult conversation about consent, toxic masculinity, and accountability. The only thing left to do is finish the final touches: a crucial music video and the film’s powerful score.

Why This Project Matters
I've only met about 4 or 5 women in my life who have NOT been a victim of rape or sexual assault, however, I've never met a man who's straight up been like, "Hey, when I was younger, I made a mistake, or I didn't understand consent."

With that in mind, The Other Foot is a raw and honest conversation piece, centered on men holding each other accountable for the ways that we may intentionally or unintentionally approach the skewed understanding of consent. Through this story, we explore the uncomfortable realities of coercion, sexual assault, and the responsibility we all must take in fostering a culture of respect and empathy. Directed by me, Dante Bailey, and featuring a primarily women-led crew, this film reflects both harsh realities and the beauty of vulnerability and growth.

Why We Need Your Help
While we've come a long way on a small budget, we're in need of finishing funds to complete the music video and pay our composer. These last elements are critical in bringing the film's vision to life.

The Music Video:
In the film, the characters watch a music video titled “Down Town” by fictional artist Foxxxy Blu. This parody video plays a key role in setting the tone for the film’s initial lighter moments, creating a sharp contrast with the serious and intense subject matter that follows. We need to shoot this video to complete the story as it was envisioned.

The Score:
Our composer, DeNoire Henderson, will craft a score that heightens the film's emotional stakes, especially during the climactic scene. Her work will give the story the dramatic depth it needs. It's important to us that she is compensated fairly for her incredible contributions, but we currently don’t have the remaining funds to cover her full rate.

What We’re Asking:
We’re aiming to raise $1,686.30 by Friday, October 25, 2024. These funds will be used to:

Produce the music video for “Down Town” ($986.30)
Pay our composer ($600)
Contingency budget for Overages ($100)

We're almost on the Directors cut of the edit & with your support, we can finish this project in time and make sure that "The Other Foot" hits the festival circuit as intended.

Why the Music Video and Score Are So Important:

The music video isn’t just filler—it plays a key role in grounding the world of the characters. In the opening scene, the boys are watching Foxxxy Blu’s “Down Town” video, which sets the foundation for their important interrogation-themed conversation on consent which the film is centered around. The music video helps add a comedic element to such an intense subject matter, while highlighting the influence of urban culture’s stereotypical portrayal of black women in hip-hop and the serious conversation about consent and pleasure politics that follows. Shooting this video is essential to capturing the full picture of the story we’re telling as it is equally a part of the conversation.

As for the score, music is often the soul of a film. In "The Other Foot," the score will guide audiences through the tension and emotion of our most critical moments. DeNoire Henderson will bring her immense talent to create a hauntingly beautiful soundscape that stays with viewers long after the credits roll and encompasses the same musical elements from the music video within an orchestral arrangement.
