Gallant Family Emergency

In August of 2018 my brother Jeff,  who is a disabled Army vet had follow up surgery for a previous colon cancer diagnosis where a foot of his colon was removed.

Well, his follow up surgery didn’t go well and he had to have another surgery.  Two months in intensive care and  three surgeries  later we had him moved from the Baltimore VA hospital to Walter Reed  hospital for surgery number four.

On October 17th 2018 the day of Jeff’s fourth  surgery, my sister Joycie suddenly and unexpectedly passed away in a hotel room on a trip to see her youngest daughter in Rockville Maryland. Joycie was the mother of five children  and grandmother to seven grandchildren. We were told by the medical examiner that she died of a brain abscess. So my sister Julie and I had a brother in the hospital and planning our sister’s funeral..

On December 21,  2018, my sister Julie had to call an ambulance for my mother who had seemed to pass out.  It turns out that she had two strains of pneumonia and very low blood counts. Mom spent two  weeks in intensive care, two months in the hospital and was diagnosed with
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

I am happy to say that at 86 year old, mom is still with us and Jeff is recovering. Thank God! But it was a long road. Mom spent two more months in rehab. She had to learn to walk all over again and she now has to use a walker.
Those photos of my mom were taken three months apart. And anyone who knows my mom knows how vibrant and active she was.

I cannot begin to describe the stress that we are going through. My sister Julie and I have missed so much work. Julie was on leave without pay for two months and I was commuting back and forth to New York to work a few days here and there to try to pay my rent.

Julie quit her job and took early retirement to take care of mom and Julie JUST bought a  house last July 2018. I gave notice to move out of my apartment so I can move in with Julie and mom to help out but my lease does not end until  July 9th.

There are still a lot of doctors appointments and treatments for mom. She’s on a chemo pill and will have to have a third bone marrow test in a couple of months.

We have exhausted all of our finances and are at the place where we can’t pays the bills anymore and I am days away from the sheriff putting me out of my apartment. We need help! Please. If you can. Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers.
