Catherine Scott-Kem Fund

Catherine Scott-Kem has been a beloved swim coach at the Naval Academy Aquatic Club for 19 years. She has also been a preschool teacher in Crofton for 24 years. She has taught many of our children.  In February of this year, Catherine tragically and unexpectedly lost her husband -- he took his own life because the financial pressure which resulted from the downturn in the economy was too much for him to bear. This left her in severe financial straits that she does not have the resources to cover.  In the summer, there had been discussions around forcing her to short sell her house. Luckily that didn't happen but she will likely lose her family home to a foreclosure.

Catherine has been running at full speed for months now, trying to keep up with many pressures, as well as grieve the loss of her life partner. As we enter the season of giving, I would like to humbly ask those of us whose lives Catherine has touched, to  make any kind of donation to help relieve some of the demands she is facing. While this is a monumental struggle for one person, the help of many others can make it more manageable for her. As a community we should take care of each other--a bit like Catherine has taken care of us and our families in the past.

Thank you,

Christine Cattaneo
