Hurricanes Laura & Delta Recovery
Donation protected
Fifteen years ago, my family and community took a direct hit from Hurricane Rita. After years of rebuilding, in the blink of an eye, our Southwest Louisiana community was ravaged by Hurricane Laura. Coming in at a Category 4, Laura packed 150mph winds that caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, and livelihoods. Calcasieu Parish is also a COVID-19 hotspot with 7,825 confirmed cases (3,528 per 100,000) prior to this devastating storm.
Funds will be used to purchase tarps, generators, lumber, tools, home repairs, water, food, and assist in lodging expenses for those remaining in hotels. N95 masks will also be purchased and distributed to slow the spread of COVID-19 during this time of damaged healthcare facilities and limited testing. Funds will be distributed among family and friends residing within Southwest Louisiana.
Although I now reside in San Francisco, I grew up in Southern Louisiana. I have witnessed the power of community. I know that our hearts will heal, homes will be rebuilt, and that we will carry one another through this disaster. Thank you for your support.
