Marine Conservation Project

This is an incredible opportunity for those genuinely interested in marine conservation and who wish to create a legacy and inspire change, within my personal capacity. I will spend 10 days on the Perhentian Islands, an area teeming with marine life and significantly important corals.

We will be led by marine conservationists who are committed to providing educational programmes that inspire future generations, support local communities, and help to protect endangered environments and wildlife through developing sustainable tourism methods and protecting reducing populations of turtles in that area.

The Perhentian Islands were once home to an abundance of Green and Hawksbill turtles, but due to poaching and irresponsible tourism the numbers have drastically dropped. I will support local researchers establish nesting patterns for their protection and monitor the population through the project. The information that this research gathers is vital for conservation measures as researchers can identify population numbers of male and female turtles, identify hotspots where conservation efforts need to be focused and monitor movement patterns of the turtles.

We will assist the officials to harvest the turtle eggs and place these safely within the local hatcheries. It is also my intention to assist with the local community beach cleansing processes needed to safeguard the dwindling turtle numbers, due to the ingestion of harmful items.

Thanks in advance for any level of support you can provide.

Kind Regards
Finlay
