Tayler's Papa needs liver donor
Hi. My name is Tayler. I am almost 3 years old. I would like to tell you about my Papa.
My Papa is a combat war veteran. What does that mean? It means that my Papa deployed to another country to give other kids the opportunity, like me, to have a chance to go to school, play safe outdoors and have freedom like we have here in the states. My Papa made sacrifices, worked very hard for my mom, me and you to have a better life. Unfortunately, my Papa has not been able to play with me like most daddies play with their little girls. My Papa can barely let me sit on his lap without causing him pain. I know he would like to be able to play horsey with me, push me on the swings and look forward to watching me grow up.
My Papa is considered one of those Wounded Warriors. This means that the 3 times that my Papa went to other countries to help other people; he was exposed to dangerous explosives and also was challenged in stressful situations. This made my Papa very ill and such conditions and choices have caused his liver to fail. I don’t understand all of this and most big people can’t explain it either, but I want my Papa to get better so he can come home, be here for me and my mom. I would like him to read me stories and tuck me into bed at night, feeling like a family again.
Can you help my Papa? We are looking for funding to help us through the next few months as we look for a “live donor”. Once this is achieved, there are many months of medical visits and weeks of recovery. We will be opening our home to help with this, but it will also be a financial burden. We are willing to do whatever it takes to help in this situation, but pray that others will feel compelled to help in any way possible.
Let me tell you more about the “live donor” that we are seeking. The liver is an amazing organ that repairs itself. It has an ability to be cut, removed and will grow back to normal size in a few weeks.
Our hope is there are special people out there who are willing to research and talk to their friends and family about my Papa and help us find someone who is compatible and would be willing to make a sacrifice and become a “live donor” giving their precious gift to help save my Papas life.
The University of California in San Francisco is where my dad is under treatment and where the surgery will take place. Their website will explain more and there are people to call if you have any questions.
Name: Paul Jeremy Joyce UCSF MRN: 57585170 The web site is www.ucsfhealth.org/liverdisease or call 1-415-353-1888 ask for AnaMarie Torres.
Our family commends the support and help that the Fort Miley Veterans Hospital, their clinics and some of the most outstanding doctors, nurses, and dedicated personnel that have supported us through all the months that it has taken my son Paul J. Joyce to receive this second chance of life. Thank you.
