My name is Ava and I’m a 21 year old transgirl from Tasmania, Australia. I’ve known that I was transgender ever since I was in my early years of primary school and have dealt with gender dysphoria ever since.
I began medically transitioning a year ago and that has greatly improved my mental health, as I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety as a result of my gender dysphoria. I have put a lot of thought into what I still need to do to feel completely happy andconnected with myself and have decided that I need surgery for that to happen.
In October 2017, I will be undergoing surgery to help me feel more at ease with my body and this will involve travelling to Melbourne, Victoria, as there are no available surgeons for this procedure in my state. I will be in hospital for 9 days post-surgery and will be required to stay in Melbourne for a month as I receive post-op care and continue to meet with my doctors and surgeons for check ups.
The donations will go towards to cost of my surgery, accomodation while I’m in post-op care and to cover necessities such as groceries, travel to and from the hospital for appointments and any extra medical expenses I may incur (e.g. additional bandages)
