Hello everyone, my name is Gülce Ataç and I’m from Turkey. I am studying double-degree in International Relations and Business at IE University in Madrid, Spain. Studying in Europe has always been a dream of mine, and my parents worked extremely hard and have sacrificed a lot to allow me to be here today.
Throughout my degree, I have earned high grades in order to maintain the Academic Excellence Scholarship that allows me to study here. Meanwhile, I volunteer at an NGO doing research projects for providing renewable energy to impoverished communities in Vietnam.
My mom and dad have always gone above and beyond to support me, however, due to the economic crisis in Turkey their means of living have been severely compromised in the last 5 years, my mom even lost her job due to political persecution of the Turkish government of anyone that is not a supporter of the party.
When I first started my degree 1 euro equaled to 2.5 Turkish liras, now it equals to 6.8 liras, which means I’m paying almost triple for everything. As a result, my tuition has gotten more and more expensive every single year on top of all the difficulties back home.
I am extremely grateful to the people that have supported me on one way or another, but I need a little bit more. Unfortunately, due to my student visa status, I cannot get a job in Spain to support my studies. I have investigated loans as well, however European banks won’t loan money to non-Europeans without an endorsement, which I don’t have; and Turkish banks are extremely reticent to loan money due to the economic situation and the political tension.
I only have one semester left to graduate and as my scholarship covers 80% of the tuition, all that I need are 3,600 Euros. If I don’t manage to pay, all of the effort that I have put in on my education and independent life away from home and my family in the past 5 years, as well as my parents’ hard work and sacrifices, will have been in vain. Each single euro received through this campaign will be used to pay my tuition and finish my degree. I will continue to work hard and make everyone that contributes proud. Upon graduation, I want to make use of my degree and fluency in Spanish by working here and continuing to alleviate living situations of underserved communities around the globe.

Siempre soñé con estudiar en Europa, y mis padres trabajaron muy duro y sacrificaron mucho para que pueda hacerlo. A lo largo de mi carrera, obtuve notas altas para poder mantener la Beca de Excelencia Académica que me permite estudiar aquí. Mientras tanto, soy voluntaria en una ONG que realiza proyectos de investigación para proporcionarles energía renovable a las comunidades empobrecidas en Vietnam.
Mis padres siempre han hecho todo lo posible y más allá para apoyarme, sin embargo, debido a la crisis económica en Turquía, sus medios de vida han sido gravemente comprometidos en los últimos 5 años, mi madre incluso perdió su trabajo debido a la persecución política del gobierno de cualquiera que no sea partidario.
Cuando comencé mis estudios, 1 euro equivalía a 2.5 liras turcas, ahora equivale a 6.8 liras, eso que significa que estoy pagando casi el triple para todo. Por lo tanto, también cada año se ha vuelto más caro seguir pagando mis estudios.
Estoy extremadamente agradecida con todas las personas que me han apoyado de una forma u otra, pero necesito un poco más. Estuve investigando maneras de terminar de pagar mis estudios por mi cuenta, pero desafortunadamente, debido a mi visa de estudiante, no puedo conseguir un trabajo en España para apoyar mis estudios. También he investigado préstamos, sin embargo, los bancos europeos no prestarán dinero a no europeos sin un aval, lo cual no tengo en Europa; y los bancos turcos son muy reticentes a prestar dinero debido a la situación económica y la tensión política.
Solo tengo un semestre de clases para graduarme y como mi beca cubre el 80% de la cuota de la matrícula, todo lo que necesito son 3.600 euros. Si no logro pagar, el esfuerzo de los últimos 5 años viviendo lejos de mi familia y los sacrificios de mis padres habrán sido en vano. Cada euro recibido será utilizado para pagar mis estudios y obtener mi título. Seguiré trabajando duro y trataré de que todos los que contribuyen estén orgullosos de mí. Al graduarme, quiero usar mi título y fluidez en español para trabajar aquí y mejorar las condiciones de vida de las comunidades empobrecidas de todo el mundo.

Merhaba, ben İzmir’den Gülce Ataç. İspanya'nın Madrid şehrindeki IE Üniversitesi'nde uluslararası ilişkiler ve işletme çift anadal son sınıf öğrencisiyim. Her zaman Avrupa'da okumayı hayal ettim ve ailem bunu gerçekleştirmek için çok çalışıp sayısız fedakarlıkta bulundu. Eğitimim boyunca, burada okumamı sağlayan Akademik Üstünlük Bursunu sürdürebilmek için çok iyi notlar aldım. Aynı zamanda Vietnam'da yoksul toplumlara yenilenebilir enerji sağlamak için araştırma projeleri yapan bir STK'da gönüllü olarak çalışıyorum.
Annem ve babam beni desteklemek için her zaman ellerinden gelenin de fazlasını yapıyorlar, ancak Türkiye'deki ekonomik kriz nedeniyle son 5 yılda yaşam şartları giderek kötüleşti ve biz de bu durumdan oldukça etkilendik.

Toplanan her bir euro eğitim ücretimi ödemek ve bölümümü bitirmek için kullanılacaktır. Bu süreçte çok sıkı çalışmaya ve eğitimime katkıda bulunan herkesi gururlandırmaya devam edeceğim. Mezun olduktan sonra akıcı İspanyolcamdan da faydalanarak, burada çalışmak ve dünyada zorluk ve yokluk çeken toplulukların yaşam şartlarını geliştirmeye katkıda bulunmak istiyorum.
