Cancer

This beautiful mother of four needs our love and support.

Lorianne was on maternity leave and was due to return to work at the end of January 2016.  It was during her leave that lumps she found on her breasts tested positive for cancer.  In her true spirit, Lorianne chose to fight back immediately with a mastectomy.  Tests showed the cancer being in her lymph nodes. She won't be returning to work. She has another battle that will take surgery and chemotherapy to fight it with.  Unfortunately, these battles will have to take place in Saskatoon at the Cancer Clinic and Hospitals, which are two hours away.  With a young son, and three more children, Lorianne is going to need some help as she makes this next journey.

Today she posted this...

During my masectomy, cancer was found in my lymph nodes. Next week, March 9th, I will have a ct scan, March 10th, heart ultrasound and meeting with pain specialist at cancer clinic, March 11th, lymph node surgery on my right arm, March 14th, bone scan, March 23rd full day meeting with my team of specialists at cancer clinic to plan treatment. I will be starting chemo at the end of March! It will take 4-6 months! I'm hoping no more cancer is found during next surgery so I can skip radiation!!
This will be a trying spring and summer but I'm up for the challenge!!

Their remote location in the beauty of northern Saskatchewan,  makes fundraisers more difficult to run. We suggested this method so that friends from the past and present, near or far, can easily help Lorianne in her time of need.

Let's show her our love in the biggest way we can; easing the financial burden of medical travel and bills when she has no income.

Since she was a young girl, Lorianne believed in helping others. She babysat and took care of other children.  After high school, she knew she wanted to help children with special needs and she earned her first degree at Minot State University in speech and audiology. She spent a few years in Texas working with many children along the borders of Mexico.  She missed friends and family and returned to Canada. She immediately began her Masters in Saskatoon and completed her degree in Special Education.   She worked in Lloydminster at a number of schools helping young children with needs achieve success in school.   During her time in Lloydminster, she received the greatest gift of the births of her three children: Ty, Zach, and Emma.  Lorianne moved to Candle Lake in her 40th year.  This was the favourite place of Lorianne and her family throughout her life.  Many summers were spent there. It was also the retirement home of her father and aunts and uncles.  She found  new direction in her work with older children at the Ranch Ehrlo Society. Commuting to Prince Albert daily allowed her to make new connections and reestablish old ones.  In January 2015,  Lorianne welcomed her son, Asher. It was just before she had Asher, that Lorianne found lumps in her breast. The doctor told her to wait six months, but she insisted on a mammogram.  It was cancer.  Facing this news, our friend decided to fight and came out swinging with a mastectomy after Asher turned one year and was more independent. The test results came back this week.

She needs our help.

Lorianne Hastings, you are not alone in your battle. We love you!
