Ryleigh Perseveres

March 8th is the day we found out our little girl has cancer. No warning signs or symptoms that would ever lead a parent to believe her baby has cancer. Already in just two sentences I’ve written the word cancer and I couldn’t even speak the word up until 4 days later from finding out. Ryleigh went to school Friday what appeared to be a healthy girl and was picked up a very sick girl. After throwing up and falling at school that Friday Ryleigh gradually suffered with pain on the right side of her abdomen. Saturday she was taken to Advent hospital and sent home. While the pain became worse and worse over Saturday night into Sunday morning I took her back to the hospital where they did a CT scan of her abdomen. A large mass was seen on her right kidney, so large that you could not even see her kidney and it was pressing on her liver. We were brought by ambulance to Shands Hospital where we found out Ryleigh was diagnosed with Wilms (nephroblastoma). We were then told that Ryleigh would need surgery followed by chemotherapy. Ryleigh had surgery Tuesday afternoon where she had the tumor, her right kidney, and ureter removed. Now she is facing recovery from surgery and atleast 25 weeks of chemotherapy. Throughout this Ryleigh will not be able to return to school and will need to be homeschooled. All of her treatments will be done in Gainesville which is about 45 minutes from home in Ocala. Due to the weekly commute for chemotherapy treatments, time out of work to care for her, and the need to homeschool Ryleigh the rest of this year and the beginning of her first grade year, we are reaching out for support to help out with expenses throughout Ryleighs journey fighting cancer.
