Rylee Schmidt's Biliary Atresia

Rylee was born January 18th 2015. Rylee seemed healthy and but her bilirubin count wasn't going down and she failed to gain weight properly. At 6 weeks old, mom took her to the dr to get blood work and they found high liver enzyme counts and still high bilirubin count. Rylee was admitted to Stanford hospital on March 10th.

They have done a liver biopsy, echos, mri's, tons of blood work and it has now been confirmed she has Biliary Artesia. This rare disease effects 1 baby out of 18,000 babies. The cause is unknown.

This requires a procedure to be done called the kasai procedure where doctors will attach the intestines directly to her liver to allow the bile to flow properly into her stomach. Most babies with biliary artesia will require a liver transplant by age five, but after transplant should live a fairly normal life.

They also found Rylee has multiple spleens and a heart condition. But no other procedures will be needed to correct these issues.

To be able to be with Baby Rylee, Mom and Dad are both having to take time off of work. Despite having insurance, the cost of medical bills and other expenses are adding up quickly.

Please help them in anyway you can. Thank you for your generosity. It is greatly appreciated.
