My sister and brother-in-law, Ashley and Jared Parish, gave birth to this precious little boy, Ryker Joseph Parish, one month early on September 29, 2016. He was petite but perfect to complete their family. Big sister, Rylie, who is 5, was so excited to have a baby brother.
After coming home from the hospital, it has been nothing but the rollercoaster of life. Ashley started having excruciating abdominal pains and was in the Emergency Room three times within the first month. They found out she needed to have her gallbladder out and surgery was scheduled. After surgery she developed an ulcer and was admitted to the hospital for three days. She has had little time to enjoy her baby.
To this point, Ryker appeared to be a normal healthy baby. He was sleeping good, and didn't cry much and appeared to be a happy baby. At his two month appointment, the doctor's notice a loud heart murmur and an ECHO was scheduled to see what was going on. Within several hours of the ECHO being done, they were called by the doctor and told to go immediately to Children's Hospital in Columbus where they were told that he would have to have open heart surgery to correct a heart defect that he was born with.
Surgery was done on December 2nd, and he is in ICU under constant watch, hooked up to every machine imaginable. He had a seizure just after surgery, so his brain activity is being monitored as well. We don't know yet how long he will have to be in the hospital, but will be in ICU for several days and will then move to a stepdown unit.
With everything that has happened, I am asking for your help for my sister's family. They have so many medical expenses right now with the delivery, Ashley's medical issues, and now this surgery and hospital stay. They haven't had a chance to start Christmas shopping yet for either Rylie or Ryker. Also as a one income household, Jared is taking off a lot of work which is decreasing the amount of money they have available right now. Anything you can help they will greatly appreciate.
