Ryder's Recovery

There is life after a suicide attempt! It's nothing short of a miracle that my cousin, Chris Ryder Anderson, is still alive, after he shot himself in November 2014. The doctors at the University of Iowa Hospital saved his life and continue to help reconstruct the damage. After 15 years of marriage he and his wife got divorced. He lost his house in the divorce and was living with his friend. He was at a very low point feeling like he didn't have anything to live for. He took a handgun, went to a park and shot himself in the head! Fortunately the police were there within minutes and he was airlifted to Iowa City. He lost most of his jaw, part of his tongue, all his teeth, his nasal cavity, and eye socket. He still has the bullet lodged in his brain and it can't be removed. He has undergone several reconstructive surgeries and has many more to go. He is unable to work at his job any more, was denied disability and was informed that his insurance will run out soon. He has always been very hard working and self sufficient, and has a lot of pride. He is a generous and loving person and has always given the best hugs!
